heritage challenge, week 6

This week we were challenged to document a favorite pastime. I found this great picture of my mom riding her bike on the streets of San Francisco & knew it would work perfectly!

We were also challenged to use some fun tape (with the numbers & text at the very bottom). It’s like a masking tape & slightly translucent. Very fun. I paired it with my February Green Tangerines kit stash & was so happy with the results.

This die-cut “lace” paper from Basic Grey was perfect for a photo of a bike. I layered it on top of some beige cardstock and then added a fun plastic tag. I copied an idea from Brenda that I saw in the GTKC gallery & cut the tag; I used the larger lined section for journaling, and the smaller bracketed section for a small tag by the photo. I added the letter “c” (my mom’s initial) to that.

Another fun trick I scraplifted from the GTKC gallery was layering the chipboard Thickers. Seriously, why didn’t I think of this before?! I think this is one of my new favorite techniques to squish in a too long title!

project life 2/20–3/5

Sunday morning bagels.

Since the kids had the day off of school, we went to visit the puppies at one of my client’s homes.

Sisterly love in the Costco shopping cart.

First day of T-ball practice.

Pajama day at dance & girls’ lunch at Chick Fil A :)

Brandon was received the Character Counts award for kindness at school today! I’m so proud of him!

Trying on sunglasses at Sports Authority while waiting for us to buy Brandon’s baseball gear.

Today was Brandon’s Star Wars birthday party! We had a great time…and even got to destroy the death star (piƱata).

Happy 6th Birthday little man! You’ve grown up so quickly :)

Between gifts from his friends & a Target gift card from his grandma, Brandon had quite a stash of Star Wars toys, Lego, & Nerf guns!

My stash of reusable shopping bags…if only I remembered to bring them to my car (& into the store) from the kitchen more often!

Abbie insisted on sitting in the cart at Whole Foods today…so I just piled up the groceries on top of her :)

Olivia used some of her allowance to pick up this fun bead set at Target today. She loves making bracelets & necklaces for herself & everyone else.

Shopping trip to Ikea to pick up some furniture.

heritage challenge, week 5

Childhood homes.

The challenge this week was to document the home. I really would've loved to have been able to take the time to document all of our parents’ homes; my mom grew up in an apartment in San Francisco. My dad grew up in a small house in Oildale (Bakersfield), CA. My mother-in-law was raised on a potato farm in North Dakota. My father-in-law grew up in suburban LA. And my husband’s step-mom was a Navy brat who spent a good portion of her childhood in Hawaii. All very different. Someday I’ll get all of their stories down!

Since I mostly have pictures from my mom, I decided to tell her story of life in San Francisco in the 1950s.

I used a bunch of papers from my February Green Tangerine’s kit club. A lot of the stuff in kit has that retro feel, so it worked out perfectly for me!

We were challenged to use some antique lock & key pieces as well. I used the vintage looking door lock below as a fun accent.

I also added these screw-like brads to my journaling box. The font here is Mom’s Typewriter. I probably got it at dafont.com.

project life 2/6–2/19

Superbowl party at our house!
Packers 31, Steelers 25

The girls brought me all their stuffed animals.

Olivia smashed her thumb in our sliding glass door yesterday. This is what it looked like before it got really bad.

First daffodil in the front yard…I love these flowers!

The McDonald’s at Sierra College & Douglas, in the Safeway parking lot. If Brandon had his way, we’d eat there everyday.

Decorating tile coasters at the ESF Art Auction at Bayside.

The simple pleasures: riding piggyback on Daddy.

Brandon got to be VIP this week at school. He got to fill out this poster to share in class, as well as bring some fun things throughout the week.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Trying to get the laundry put away before heading out to work.

Too much green “Fun Dip” from his Valentine’s candy stash!

Just another day at work, naming the food in a “Very Hungry Caterpillar” with one of my favorite little two year olds.

Brandon reading the names of the states to me on his placemat at breakfast this morning. I am amazed everyday by how much he’s learned so far in kindergarten!
