snow day in nyack

We are so fortunate to live so close to the Sierras! We drove up to Nyack (on the way to Tahoe) a couple of weeks ago to let the kids have fun in the snow.

I went thru my photos (157 of them!) fairly quickly once we got home. I was eager to share them, and more eager to scrap them! I picked up this fun line from My Mind’s Eye back before Christmas & was looking forward to using the snowman on a “snow fun” themed layout.

Of course I used an Allison Davis sketch (from volume 6). I love being able to integrated so many of the patterned papers into one layout!

And I was so excited to use this snowflake in place of an “o”!

While in Tahoe this last winter, my mom, sister, & I took the kids to make candles at Waxen Moon in Squaw Valley.

I've used this layout a couple times before, with slightly different photo sizes.

Both patterned papers came in my May Green Tangerine's kit and are from Crate Paper.

The pink paper I used for journaling is actually the reverse of the pink & orange patterned paper that I used on the bottom of the photo block. The font is called Teen & can be found here at dafont.com.

I used these puffy chocolate thickers from my stash.

We got back from Tahoe 6 months ago...so now I can scrap it! As you can tell, I'm not the best with scrapping things right away. And if I do, then it means something gets put off for a few months. Sometimes I get my pictures uploaded to the computer & I'm immediately inspired. And sometimes, after five days in Tahoe, I have so many pictures that even if I am inspired, I'm overwhelmed by having to select 10 photos out of 500+. So I wait a few months until I'm not so emotionally attached to the 27 pictures of Abbie eating snow, and then I can objectively decided that one is cute, the rest can go.

And then I can make this:

Originally I was planning on using my stash from my December kit. But that was a bit too Christmasy for the colors in these photos (though I was able to use the glitter snowflake die-cut paper again! Fun!). Then I found some Christmas My Mind's Eye paper sitting around (literally scraps! yay!) from this layout. Perfect!

I cut the snowflake out from a die-cut sheet by KI Memories.

The die-cut title words are from My Mind's Eye also. It's such a great feeling to get my stash pared down!

To get this look, I cut both the striped & spotted paper into 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch rectangles. I glued the striped to the back of the white paper (before I had adhered anything else. Then I folded the corner over a ruler to get an even fold. I did it using the corners of the striped paper for a rough guide. Then I attached the spotted paper to the back of the white paper, exactly on top of the striped and attached the folded corner with a pretty brad. I hope that make a little bit of sense!

Tahoe

We just got back from five days in Tahoe with my family...so now I'm in the midst of mega laundry! It was well worth it though :)

I was smart this trip & brough three scrapbook kits for me to do in the evenings. I still need to finish up the journaling on one (on the computer), but otherwise I finished three layouts. Yay! Okay, not one of them was "my" design, but hey, I got them done :)

Before I get back to the laundry pile, here are a few pics from our trip:

I took all of my photos in RAW this time, so I have to edit them before I can print or share them. But the colors came out great this time! I usually shoot & JPEG + RAW, a great feature on my camera. However, that takes up a LOT more room on my memory card. It makes it take a bit longer to share anything, but well worth it when you take way too many pictures :)

SNOW!

In Roseville?

Monday morning we woke up to a light dusting of snow. Unfortunately, from what I've heard, it snowed at about 4 in the morning. So by the time I woke up take pictures at 6am most of it had melted away.

This was us:

Unbelievable! I hear that we got about 2" of snow!

So then my mom watches my kids for me on Tuesdays when I go to work. She had already told me she was planning on bringing them to McDonald's for lunch as a special treat (i.e., she didn't feel like making lunch!). On her way to pick up my daughter from preschool, she could see the snow up in the hills & had an idea, "how about going to McDonald's in Auburn!". Auburn is at about 1200', so they got "real" snow.

The kids didn't have snow clothes on, but they didn't care! They had lunch & then a snowball fight on the lawn for about a half hour. They wrapped some blankets on their legs for the fifteen minute drive home & had a blast! Do I have an awesome mom or what?!
